What is PO?
A bank probationary officer is the starting level appointment for bank personnel. They have one or two years of probation (on condition/can be removed anytime) period during which they are exposed to various banking functions like loans and advances, foreign exchange, credit rating, risk management, and marketing. Every banking institution has to recruit a probationary officer so their’s a large scope for young aspirants to become a bank PO.
Probationary Officer is a newly recruited officer in a bank. But in reality, there is no designation as Probationary Officer once candidates have joined the bank. The designation will be Assistant Manager but since the candidate will be on Probation for at least 2 years before being confirmed, therefore the term Probationary Officer is used.
While on probation, he is exposed to all the works carried out in the branch. He has to know the job of a peon because he’ll be the supervising authority for them. He’ll have to know the job of clerk because he’ll be verifying all the work done by them. He’ll have to know the job of a manager because that is what he is destined to be.
He should basically know everything there is to know about the proper functioning of the branch. Depending on the requirement of the specific branch that he is allotted to he will be exposed to any banking work like Payment Clearances, Attending to Customers, Handling Cash, Report Verification, Official Communication, Bringing New Business, Marketing, etc.
